The Royal Commission and Board of Inquiry into the Protection and Detention of Children was established on 1 August 2016. The Hon Margaret White AO and Mr Mick Gooda were appointed as joint Commissioners. The Commissioners were asked to look at the Northern Territory’s youth detention and child protection systems over the 10 years from 1 August 2006. The Commission delivered its final report to the Commonwealth and Northern Territory Governments on 17 November 2017. It comprises more than 2000 pages in six volumes, with 142 findings and 227 recommendations.
Following the release of the Royal Commission report, the Reform Management Office (RMO) was established to coordinate reform across government, non government and local communities.
